Study: DentView's Digital Self-Care Guidance Improves Oral Hygiene in Orthodontic Patients

A randomized study conducted in collaboration between the University of Turku and the wellbeing services county of Southwest Finland examined the effect of digital self-care guidance on the oral hygiene of orthodontic patients using DentView. The adolescents and young adults who participated were divided into two groups: one received self-care guidance digitally through DentView, and the other received traditional guidance from a dentist specializing in orthodontics.
Oral hygiene was measured using the OHI-S index (Oral Hygiene Index – Simplified) before the guidance and again at the end of the follow-up period. In both groups, oral hygiene improved significantly, and no difference was found between the results of the DentView group and those who received guidance from a professional. In other words, digital self-care guidance delivered through DentView reached the same level as traditional one-to-one guidance over a short follow-up.
The study supports the use of DentView as part of orthodontic care. The digital solution offers an effective way to strengthen patients' self-care and free up professionals' time without compromising the quality of care. This creates a strong foundation for using DentView more broadly in both public and private oral healthcare.
