The Pilot Study on DentView Conducted by the Oulu Institute of Dentistry Was Presented in France!

The City of Oulu utilizes the DentView service package in all its oral health units. The university has conducted research on client motivation for self-care through the virtual kiosk at the Kaakkuri and Oulunsalo dental clinics. Additionally, data were collected at the Tornio dental clinic. Information on motivation was gathered from clients through surveys conducted in conjunction with the use of the DentView virtual kiosk and again later.
The first author, Päivi Havela, presented the abstract in France at the EADPH (European Association of Dental Public Health) congress. DentView sparked a lot of interest and discussion among the attendees!
The research results showed that DentView was easy to use (mean 8.6; SD1.9, median 10.0), it provided useful information on oral health-related issues (mean 8.6; SD1.7, median 9.5), and DentView successfully motivated clients to brush (mean 8.34; SD2.4, median 10.0) and floss (mean 7.4; SD3.1, median 8.0) their teeth. The results were not dependent on the respondent's educational background (p=0.66) or smoking habits (p=0.89).
We at DentView are very pleased with the conclusion: In the study group, digital tools like DentView can be seen as useful instruments in health counseling!
